LEAD The Ronald Louis Clark Endowed Scholarship The Regina Clark McNeil Endowed Scholarship and The Ronald Dean McNeil Endowed Scholarship
After the 2006 passage of Proposal 2 in the state of Michigan, many factors could no longer be considered in the college admissions process. The following Fall saw one of the least diverse freshman classes enrolling on the University of Michigan’s Ann Arbor campus in recent history. Private scholarship support was also significantly impacted by Proposal 2 because the University could no longer accept donations for race or gender specific programs. For these reasons, the Alumni Association of the University established the LEAD Scholars Program to support the University’s traditions of Leadership, Excellence, Achievement and Diversity.
In support of this effort, The Foundation established three endowments–The Ronald Louis Clark Endowed Scholarship, in honor of Dr. McNeil’s brother; The Regina Clark McNeil Endowed Scholarship and The Ronald Dean McNeil Endowed Scholarship. These Funds provide merit-based scholarships to African-American students at the University of Michigan’s three campuses and will be administered through the Alumni Association’s LEAD Scholars Program. Recipients of scholarship support from the respective Funds will, respectively, be known as Ronald Louis Clark Scholars, Regina Clark McNeil LEAD Scholars and Ronald Dean McNeil Scholars.
